In Republic #71, Anakin confronts Asajj Ventress on Coruscant. Sent by Count Dooku to hunt down Quinlan Vos, Ventress finds Padmé Amidala instead and uses her as bait to lure Anakin into battle.
Fueled by rage at the threat to his secret wife, Anakin charges in without restraint. Ventress, ever cold and calculating, uses his fury against him. In the middle of their duel, she lands a precise strike across his face—leaving the scar that would follow Anakin into the Clone Wars and beyond.
The injury didn’t slow him down—it ignited his vengeance. Anakin retaliated by wrapping Ventress in electrified cables and hurling her into the depths of Coruscant’s underworld.
Interestingly, Anakin wasn’t the only one to bear her mark. Ventress also scarred Clone Commander Wolffe, who would go on to wear a cybernetic eye. But it was Anakin’s wound that became one of the most iconic injuries in Star Wars lore—one that foreshadowed the rage and darkness he would eventually embrace as Darth Vader.
