How Did Darth Vader Get His Red Lightsaber?
After losing his Jedi weapon and fully embracing the dark side, Darth Sidious set a grim task for his new apprentice: kill a Jedi and claim their Kyber crystal.
The Duel with Kirak Infil’a
Vader’s target was Kirak Infil’a, a Jedi Master who had survived Order 66 by living in exile under a vow of penance. A formidable warrior and duelist, Infil’a nearly killed Vader in their first encounter, hurling him off a cliff.
But Vader’s strength lay in his ruthlessness. He sabotaged a nearby dam, causing a catastrophic flood that forced Infil’a to choose between saving innocent civilians or finishing their duel. The Jedi hesitated—Vader did not. He snapped Infil’a’s neck with the Force and claimed his green-bladed lightsaber.
The Bleeding Ritual
With Infil’a’s Kyber crystal in hand, Vader traveled to Mustafar—the world where Anakin Skywalker died and Vader was reborn. There, he poured his rage, pain, and hatred into the crystal, bleeding it and turning it from green to crimson red.
The Iconic Red Blade
The corrupted crystal became the heart of Vader’s first red lightsaber—a weapon that would become a symbol of terror and oppression across the galaxy.
