Among the most powerful Sith Lords to ever live, Darth Sidious had little regard for the weapon most associated with both the Jedi and the Sith: the lightsaber.
To Sidious, the lightsaber was a symbol of Jedi dogma. The Jedi viewed their weapons as sacred tools of peace and defense, but Palpatine saw this reverence as a sign of their weakness. He believed the Jedi had become so focused on lightsaber combat and technique that they forgot the true essence of the Force.
In Sidious’ view, true power came not from martial skill, but from fear, manipulation, and deception—the subtle, devastating tools of the dark side. The Jedi were predictable. Their duels followed ancient forms, rigid and ceremonial. But the dark side was adaptable, primal, and personal.
Still, Palpatine wielded a lightsaber. In fact, he wielded two, both hidden within his robes and forged from rare materials like Electrum and Phrik. His ornate hilts mocked the Jedi tradition, and he used them only to further humiliate his enemies. When he defeated Mace Windu, or overwhelmed Yoda in the Senate chamber, he wasn’t relying on the blade—it was a theatrical insult.
