Why Did the Grand Inquisitor Fall to the Dark Side?
Before he served the Empire as the Grand Inquisitor, this Pau’an Jedi was a Jedi Temple Guard, sworn to defend the Jedi Temple on Coruscant with unwavering loyalty and discipline.
A Growing Resentment
Beneath the stoic mask of a Temple Guard, however, resentment festered:
-
He developed a deep hatred for Chief Librarian Jocasta Nu, who denied him repeated access to the Jedi Archives.
-
Even when he was allowed entry, Nu watched him closely, believing him unworthy of the ancient knowledge within.
Like Anakin Skywalker, he became frustrated with the Jedi Order’s strict hierarchy and their refusal to share deeper Force knowledge—particularly anything related to the dark side.
The Breaking Point
The final blow came when he stood watch during Ahsoka Tano’s trial, an event that deeply shook his already fragile faith in the Jedi. The Order’s willingness to cast out one of their own planted the seeds of his eventual betrayal.
Seduction by the Sith
Disillusioned and bitter, the future Grand Inquisitor became an easy target for Darth Sidious, who offered him access to the forbidden knowledge he had always craved.
His first mission under the command of Darth Vader? To hunt down the very Jedi who once denied him that knowledge: Jocasta Nu.
